Saturday 27 th of August North’s go down to GPS in a Bog. North’s 7 to GPS 25
Last weekend the North’s winning run came to a close. North’s came out firing and
attacked GPS line for the first 10 minutes but all the good work came undone when
an errant long pass was intercepted and their winger sprinted the length of the field
to score. GPS then kicked a conversion to take the score to 10 - 0. Jason Tia then
kicked a long range penalty and GPS led 10 - 3. The game then seesawed from one end
to the other until GPS scored just before the break and then kicked a penalty to
lead 18 - 3.
Coach Lew Price tried to rally the boys at half asking them to go back
to the game plan, not to kick the ball away and not to throw long passes. The second
half was a dogged affair played in pouring rain and North’s struggled to breach the
gap. GPS finally scored again and led 25 - 3. North’s did not show there true colours
until the last ten minutes of the game when they started to dominate the breakdowns.
Second rower Will Hansen made a break down the left hand side and put the energetic
Tom Hewitt over for a try.
The coaches Lew, Alan and Mike were disappointed with the
result but hopefully in our last game of the season we can go back to the game plan
and finish with a win against University. I sure when the boys watch the video they
will see the result of kicking the ball away. We play well, exert so much pressure
and then give the ball to the opposition with wayward kicks.
If we start how we finished
against GPS there is no reason we cannot finish the season with a win. Up to you
boys.
Congratulations to all the old codgers who laced on the boots to help out the
thirds. Don't go away boys you might have to do it again next week.
