3rd Grade Match Report North’s vs Logan North’s win 29 to 5

The Third Grade that played against Logan on Saturday was a mix of young and old, fit and know where near it!!  The Bustard pack plus Porky had a combined total 320 years of experience and a total pack size of 900kg they managed 3 tight heads due to over powering weight and experience plus three good strikes from veteran prop Glen Deason.

Our pack, Props Anthony Larson and Glen Deason, hooker Graham Myers, Locks Porky and Matt Worsley, Breakaways Dave Cox and Dave Tait, number 8 and new Bustard Jimmy. What the Bustards lacked in fitness was well outweighed with enthusiasm and tactics gained from playing vintage rugby, slowing the ball down at break downs so the game could be played at their pace. (Bloody Slow)

We were supported by some slick young backs Mussy, Matty, Rochey, Gus and Damien who with a multitude of good ball from the scrums and break downs were cutting the Logan defence apart.

The Bustards appreciated the unlimited interchange and had well earned breaks to let the younger forwards have a go, thanks to Henry, Frenchy, Black Nashy and Andrew and three other boys sorry can’t remember your name’s that’s old age for you.

It was a very satisfying win for the whole team and especially Porky who had a very unpleasant accident this time last year playing Logan at Logan with the Brisbane Irish who were North’s 3rd Grade last year. Porky had to check after the game to make sure his left one was still there. Stand in coach Dave Barber took the scrum age to well over 350.

Next week we take on East’s at Bottomley the Bustards will be back in force but as we have our own vintage game on Friday night it would be good to see some of the younger North’s boys turn up to take it to the Toothless Tigers, oh! Sorry that’s their vintage name.
